"Black excellence, truly yours." This is a lyric from hip-hop artist and entrepreneur Kanye West from the song murder to excellence featuring Jay-Z. The album, Watch the Throne. I'm sure most of you already knew that. I sat down and let it resonate with me for a while along with what Kanye was saying prior. You know,
"We like the promised land of the OG's In the past if you picture events like a black tie. What the last thing you expect to see? Black guys. What's the life expectancy for black guys? The system's working effectively, that's why!"
As I was listening I thought about our youth. What do they see? There isn't a lot of representation out there that our youth can get inspired to become whoever they want and become successful. If you grew up black and in the inner cities odds are you saw that "the system's working effectively." However It's not only our youth it's young adults as well. Being from the inner city of Washington DC, I felt that. Growing up I just thought that was the way things were. It wasn't until I got older when I truly started to understand how society played a part in the downfall of many young and bright African Americans who simply just didn't know any better.
They had no idea that they could be something else. They had no idea that they could truly be them. This blog is for all young African Americans who may not know who they are yet or are afraid to truly be themselves. Mainly because of what society may think of you or what those in your neighborhoods or communities may think of you. Iv'e seen the effects of both. We live in an age where you can be who you want and be successful in doing so. This blog is to inspire. This blog is to motivate. This blog is for you. This blog is for those you love and adore. This blog is for black excellence, because it can be "truly yours."
I love it! 🔥🔥🔥
